HISTORY: Purdue Ft. Wayne Kid Is The First Genius To Use Their Shoe To Block A Shot, Could Change Basketball Forever
I don't want to be dramatic here or anything, but this is easily one of the 5 best blocks I've ever seen. Name someone else who lost their shoe and used it to block a shot? I can't. Not to mention he did it legally. That's right. It's legal to block a shot with your shoe, as long as you don't throw it. Need someone like D'Antoni's brother at Marshall to use this strategy. Have your slowest/tallest player add a couple inches and practice blocking shots with a goddamn shoe. Might not be the best idea on offense, but this is why we have 800 Division I college basketball teams. Start learning how to play offense with no shoes or one shoe on, defend holding them.
That said, this is one of the most ridiculous pictures in a ridiculous sport:
I just can't get over the perfect timing here to execute the block. Never thought I'd see a goddamn blocked shot via shoe. One of the most ridiculous plays we'll see all year. Also makes me realize how many iconic lines/images/gifs are involve a shoe. The Florida guy chucking a cleat. George W. ducking a shoe throw. Happy Gilmore's caddie only wearing one shoe. Now add this to the Mt. Rushmore of shoe plays.
Tell me you wouldn't want to see one possession where one team has all 5 dudes with a shoe in hand. Just ready to contest everything. Guys always want to lie about size. Things like program size, grower vs shower, rounding up to 6 feet, whatever it might be. You can add real size by using your shoe. Problem solved.
