Football Gal: Melissa Etheridge Dropped A Song Called 'I Loved The Chiefs Before They Were Cool' With Shots At Todd Haley And Matt Cassel
I never thought I'd blog Meslissa Etheridge but, hey, this is football. Gotta admit it's a catchy song. Has a little old school Sandler vibes with the rhyming and name dropping. That said, I laughed out loud that she actually took a shot at Todd Haley and Matt Cassel. Not sure why it had to be only them, not like the Chiefs were awesome before, but well done nonetheless. I mean, look at this guy.
That's my only complaint. She's gotta reference one of the most used and known gifs out there. That was the highlight of the Todd Haley era. Also love the respect to Jamaal Charles and Priest Holmes. They were awesome. But where's Dante Hall? Throw in an X-factor for me one time. Dude was electric with the ball in his hands on a return and something of the old days now since we don't get any returns.
Other thing missing? Christian Okoye. You wanna talk about a guy who was AWESOME in Tecmo Bowl, you played with Christian Okoye. Not to mention the Nigerian Nightmare is such a sick nickname. Maybe that was too cool for the Chiefs though. It is crazy that the Chiefs are this famous and good franchise now. They always felt like they were just there during my time growing up. Make a couple playoffs, never feel like a real title threat. Have some decent players but never a complete team.
Whether you're sick of or not, smart to reference Taylor Swift in the song. Her fans hear her name and they'll come running good or bad. That's how you get numbers. Just goes to show you everyone loves football. That's how we end up with a Melissa Etheridge blog here at Barstool.
