Kang Is Back On The Table At Marvel - Michael Waldron Hired To Write 'The Kang Dynasty'
Over the past few months, rumors have swirled all over the internet about what Disney/Marvel plans on doing with Jonathan Majors and their 'Kang the Conqueror' storyline (which seems to be the focal point of this Multiverse Saga) following his alleged domestic violence incident in March.
We heard rumors of recastings, rumors that Marvel can't actually recast the character because of a clause in Majors' contract, rumors that they were going to scrap the idea altogether and fast forward right to Doctor Doom being the MCU's big bad guy, and an infinite amount more crazy ideas - but when 'Avengers: Kang Dynasty' director Destin Daniel Cretton left the film this month, I thought the Kang Era was done for sure...
Even writer Jeff Loveness was removed from the movie recently, and it was reported that was due to Marvel "reportedly likely moving away from Kang"....
Today, though, it seems less like Marvel is moving away from the Kang storyline, and more like Marvel just bringing 'The Kang Dynasty' in a new direction, because Michael Waldron (creator of 'LOKI', writer of 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness') was just hired to write it.
Waldron and company handled Kang far better in 'LOKI' than 'Quantumania' handled him, and they truly made him feel like the threat that was promised with 'He Who Remains' - so I think if Marvel is moving forward with Kang, this is the right move.
Plus, Michael Waldron is ALSO slated to write 'Avengers: Secret Wars', bringing a nice continuity to these new Avengers movies. And he's a friend of the Basement, and great dude, so this just ups the odds of Clem and I appearing as background Kang variants one day. You gotta love that.
Here's the latest I was able to find on the Jonathan Majors case, from October 25th via TMZ:
In that article, they reveal that the ex-girlfriend accusing Majors of assault was actually recently arrested for assaulting him as well that night (they say she smacked him in the face, causing a cut, and scratched his hand), but the Manhattan DA isn't going to prosecute because of how long ago the incident took place. It seems the DA and NYPD have some sorta disagreement about how to handle this case, making things all the more confusing.
Majors is set to be on trial tomorrow, though, according to that TMZ post, so hopefully that will bring some clarity.

P.S. One quick, unrelated note here: I keep seeing reports that Robert Downey Jr/Chris Evans/Scarlett Johansson could return in 'Secret Wars', and the most common response to that I'm seeing in the replies is some variation of "Marvel is desperate!"
Marvel may actually be desperate right now, but not because they're planning on bringing back Robert Downey Jr/Chris Evans/Scarlett Johansson in Secret Wars (allegedly).
I mean, I vividly remember talking to Jeff D Lowe and KenJac RIGHT after we saw 'Endgame' about how we probably wouldn't see those characters "until Secret Wars" - because that's always been assumed by a lot of us. When did this revisionist history begin where people are acting like they wouldn't do that unless Phase 4 wasn't well received?! Multiversal variants were introduced for a reason!
