I Am Still Baffled At How Shitty The Lions Looked On Thanksgiving

Do you know all that cool shit that the Lions were doing? They stopped doing it yesterday. I feel like a victim here. I was very confident in the Lions yesterday. You should NEVER be confident in the Lions. Ford Field was electric, and they were going up against the team they had already beaten. From the first play, Detroit just looked off. You know that things are bad when the best Lions team of my lifetime is getting booed by their own fans in the first half. They deserved it, too. They did not seem like a prepared football team.

Because of who this franchise is, with each passing loss, people will wonder if this is the beginning of a potential collapse. I can’t go there right now. The division lead is still comfortable. There’s too much talent here for this team not to make it to the postseason. I’m not worried about that. But for a brief second, I think Lions fans had higher aspirations than just making it to the playoffs and winning a playoff game. This is a fun group, but the issues are apparent. I don’t see this defense fixing itself. They had a chance to address it at the trade deadline, and they didn’t. I defended that at the time, but with the benefit of hindsight, it seems like Brad Holmes made a mistake not being more aggressive. The secondary has been riddled with injuries, but this team doesn’t put enough pressure on the quarterback, even if they were healthy. Receivers are going to get open if you give a guy ten fucking seconds to throw.

You can acknowledge that the Lions are in a really good place while also mentioning that yesterday was an extreme disappointment. All year, I’ve gotten vibes that this team is different from any Lions team I’ve seen. I stand by that, which makes yesterday all the more baffling. The Lions usually stink, and they usually get embarrassed on Thanksgiving. The Lions don’t stink this year. They’ve been pretty awesome, yet they still got beat on Thanksgiving in large part because of self-inflicted wounds and a defense they couldn’t make a stop when it mattered.

I’m not somebody who abides by the belief that you need to fail to learn how to succeed. Find me a person who’s never failed, and I’ll find you a happy person. That said, I think it’s fair to say that the Lions found out yesterday that they are now the hunted and not the hunter. They are going to get everyone’s best shot. It is very much uncharted territory for a team that hasn’t been this good since before the Super Bowl era. Every game will be a challenge. I hope they’re ready.
