Josh Dobbs Says Kevin O'Connell Had To Tell Him What Routes Were Being Run On Every Play Through His Headset
What Josh Dobbs was able to do last Sunday is one of the most impressive things we've seen in the NFL in a long time. He got to Minnesota on Wednesday, gets forced into action on Sunday not knowing any of the playbook — or even all of his teammates' names — and goes out there and wins a huge game on the road. This guy is a baller.
When you don't know the playbook, though, the head coach has to just tell you what routes your receivers are going to run like you're playing backyard football. Dobbs was calling out plays with no clue what he was saying and then had to have the head coach quickly tell him what he just said to the rest of the offense. Insane.
The Falcons' defense should honestly be a little ashamed of themselves. You simply can't lose a game to a quarterback who doesn't know what plays he's running. Can't happen.
It's an amazing story, though. It's awesome to see Dobbs getting this kind of recognition for taking advantage of his opportunity. I guess studying to be a rocket scientist can, in fact, come in handy in the NFL from time to time.
