It's a Sad Day for Democracy as the Politician Who Did Online Porn With Her Husband Has Lost Her Re-Election Bid
While we in this country, for the most part, believe that a free and fair system of elected representation in our government to be not just a guiding principle of our republic, but something that is sacred. Worth fighting and dying for. And that's all well and good. But we have to also agree that democracy is not without its flaws. Socrates himself argued against it, believing that the general public lacks the wisdom and knowledge to choose its rulers. That they will be easily swayed by those who offer easy solutions, make promises they can't keep, and preach that no one will have to make sacrifices. And I think it's fair to say we see that every election, at every level of government.
Well if old So Crates Johnson could've seen the results of Virginia's 57th District election, he's have simply argued people shouldn't be allowed to vote because we are too stupid, period. Because State Rep. Susanna Gibson lost her bid for re-election. Not for corruption, dishonesty or incompetence. But but because she and her husband like to provide for their family by having marital relations on the internet for money:
This is not a "scandal" in the sense we traditionally think of them. Rep. Gibson wasn't some hypocrite preaching traditional family values while tomcatting around behind her spouses back like hundreds or even thousands of very successful political figures have. She and her husband:
… were simply sharing intimate moments with one another. And their thousands of followers on the internet who paid money to request that they do very specific things. Like free Americans. But that is apparently what cost her the election:
Source - The so-called 'porn Dem,' Susanna Gibson, lost her Virginia House of Delegates race Tuesday, after webcam videos of her having sex with her husband were exposed.
Republican businessman David Owen bested Gibson by less than 1,000 votes, final results showed.
Gibson's race was one of the most watched during Tuesday's off-off-year elections after she became embroiled in an eyebrow-raising scandal involving livestreaming sex acts with her husband for tips. …
In September, The Washington Post reported that Gibson, a 40-year-old nurse practitioner, and her husband, attorney John David Gibson, performed livestreamed sex acts on the site Chaturbate, a portmanteau for chatting while masturbating.
More than a dozen of those videos ended up on a secondary site, Recurbate, in September 2022 and were discovered by Republican operatives.
In one of the leaked clips, Gibson tells her husband, 'I'll let you f* me in the a doggy style in a private room if someone wants to pay. That's the deal.'
Gibson told the audience that she's in an open relationship with her husband, though he 'doesn't like sharing,' adding that the money requested was 'for a good cause.'
Until the Daily Mail referred to Rep. Gibson as "Porn Dem," I honestly hadn't checked to see what her party affiliation even was. I don't know what her policies are regarding taxes, school choice, immigration, building the Commanders a new stadium with taxpayer dollars. I might have disagreements with her on every issue that matters. But taking your spouse to the summit of Bone Mountain on a webcam in order to help pay for your kids' braces or get out from under credit card debt or whatever is no reason you can't serve the public.
I mean, how many elected officials right now are taking payoffs. Selling secrets to foreign governments. Being blackmailed by bad actors into betraying us all. Well Susanna Gibson is blackmail-proof. What's some crooked businessman going to do, threaten to release nudes of her? Video of her getting "f in the a* doggy style in a private room"? The world can have that with a small donation "for a good cause." That's the deal.
But in a world where our ruling class is fucking us on a daily basis and still hold onto power, it's the one who made sweet, sweet love with her husband - for a vast audience pleasuring themselves at their computers - who pays the political price. And boy oh boy, is the internet making with the jokes:
While former Major Leaguers shoot their shots:
Just a sad, sad moment in the history of our democracy. And an indictment of the state of American politics on the whole. When we reject dedicated public servants like this:
… just because they do butt stuff with their spouses for the enjoyment of others, we don't deserve good governance. Socrates was right.
