Lincoln Riley And Company Drew Up The Trick Play Of The Year Against Washington

This Washington versus USC game is the kind of shit that I love. Maybe it’s because I’m from Big Ten country, and I’m used to seeing games were the first team to score 20 wins, but I love shootouts. You have two future NFL quarterbacks airing it out in the Colosseum. What’s ironic is that both these teams are going to be in the Big Ten next season, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it.

What an absolute nuke of a play call this was. This was designed, right? Like, it had to be. There’s no way it could’ve possibly worked out this perfectly if it was just something that was drawn up in the sand. It’s a gutsy move. You are relying on pretty solid blocking by your offensive line just so you can buy the running back time to be able to pitch the ball back to Caleb Williams so he can fire a strike. This is not the first highlight reel play that we’ve seen tonight.

It’s so bizarre how we assess quarterbacks in college. Caleb Williams won the Heisman last year. He’s played one bad game of football’s entire college career, and now people are questioning if he really is that dude.. That’s really stupid. Caleb Williams is a generational quarterback. Joel Klatt was correct when he said he would probably make 18 NFL teams better if he got drafted today.

What makes this particular game so awesome is that you could argue he’s not even the best quarterback on the field. Michael Penix right now is the favored to win the Heisman. This could be one of these college matchups that we look back on in amazement, similar to the Baker Mayfield versus Patrick Mahomes game from 2016. Give me a 6 OT game with each of these guys going for 500 yards apiece, and I’ll be happy.
