Loki Has The Whole MCU On His Back Right Now
We're only four episodes into 'Loki' Season 2, but this series once again feels head-and-shoulders above anything else happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now, and it's easily reaching the high bar that Season 1 set. It's remarkable.
Everything just feels like it's treated more seriously on 'Loki', from the huge multiversal stakes and Kang himself to the dialogue between characters and storytelling decisions, but it never loses that classic Marvel charm - largely thanks to Tom Hiddleston's amazing performance in the lead role.
In my mind, Hiddleston's become as synonymous with Loki as Robert Downey Jr/Tony Stark or Hugh Jackman/Wolverine. His supporting cast of Owen Wilson (Mobius), Sophia Di Martino (Sylvie), Jonathan Majors (He Who Remains/Victor Timely), Ke Huy Quan (Ouroboros), and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Ravonna Renslayer) help tremendously as well, and those castings were spectacular….nobody ever feels out of place. Hell, no SCENE ever feels out of place either - it's a damn near perfect show so far!
I won't spoil anything from Episode 4 because it hasn't even been 24 hours yet, but it was as cinematic as any of the movies in this phase and features some truly shocking/unpredictable twists and turns along the way that'll leave your jaw on the ground. It was so awesome I'm still buzzing about it.
I think I've been way more positive than most when it comes to Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Season 2 of 'Loki' has felt like a bucket of cold water splashed in my face, opening my eyes to just how much the overall quality of things (besides Loki) have dipped.
Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been ALL bad - we've gotten stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi, Hawkeye, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wakanda Forever, and Wandavision in this Phase - but 'Loki' still makes a lot of stuff look worse by comparison.
Like how did 'Secret Invasion' and 'She-Hulk' possibly cost Marvel Studios a combined $437 million if Loki Season 2 only cost them $141.3 million? How does that happen?
Loki really is Greg Jennings putting the whole damn team on his back with a broken leg right now….
….and that broken leg is obviously Jonathan Majors, with his real-life allegations now casting a weird cloud on his great performances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If you put all of that to the side tho, and just wanna talk about his acting in this series for a second? It's pretty next level. He Who Remains and Victor Timely feel like two completely different people/variants, but I've enjoyed both of them more than the Kang we got in 'Quantumania'. I'm practically itching to meet a new variant of this guy every week now.
"Y'all got any more Kangs?"
At least he broke up that totally real fight, tho, right?
Anyway, check out the new episode of My Mom's Basement for more 'Loki' talk….
