Those Classic Scumbag Philly Fans Are Buying All The Tickets To Game 3 Of The NLCS In Arizona Just To Donate Them
You can currently get into Chase Field today for game 3 of the NLCS for significantly less than it would cost to even just park in Philadelphia. We're talking about paying for a playoff ticket with a 20 dollar bill and still getting some change back.
I get that it's a day game in Arizona. I know they're already down 0-2 in the series. But that's still wild to me that a ticket into game 3 can cost less than a bucket of Crab Fries in CBP. But if fans in Arizona aren't going to show up to the game later today, fans from Philly will make sure they still have a sellout crowd on hand.
I'll tell you what--even if somehow they don't get it done, this 2023 Philadelphia Phillies team has already left its mark on Philly Sports Fandom forever. Don't get me wrong here or anything. The feeling is still in the air for this Phillies team to win 6 more games before the season is over. But even if that doesn't happen, this Phillies team has completely flipped the culture of being a Philly fan on its head.
This is a fanbase that had a struggling Trea Turner making $300 million, and instead of completely turning on the guy they ended up doubling down on support and gave him a standing ovation to help him through his slump. For the longest time, being a Philly sports fan always meant that you were preparing yourself for the worst. Constantly waiting for that other shoe to drop. "Negadelphia".
But with this team, it's something different. With this team, there's a sense of positivity and optimism we've never had in this city before. You can really feel it when, let's just say, a Phillies reliever comes into the game and immediately gives up a hit to the leadoff batter that inning. Then he makes an error on an easy double-play ball, and now the opposing team has runners on 1st and 3rd without any outs. Even 10 years ago, you'd be able to cut the tension in that ballpark with a knife. Everyone would be saying to themselves, "well, here we go again". But it's different with this team. It's much more optimistic, and you can feel the energy leaning more towards "alright, let's see how they get themselves out of this one". I know it's easier to remain positive and optimistic when your team is doing a bunch of winning, but if you do that long enough then eventually it'll just be permanent.
All of that is to say that this team just has Philly fans acting…happier. There's still that same level of intensity we've always had, but this Phillies team has allowed us to focus that intensity directly at the opponents rather than turning it against our own. Whether that's giving a standing ovation to a guy who has been struggling, or buying up all the tickets to a road game just to donate them to people in the area. The vibes have officially been flipped.
