These MLB Playoffs Have Been BRUTAL

I feel like I’m the number one cheerleader for baseball sometimes. I never find it boring. I don’t think the season is too long. Yes, there are issues with the sport, but I think Major League Baseball is in a better place now than ever. The games are moving faster. The rule changes were implemented, and they’ve been very successful. I was really looking forward to this October, and it has been a complete dud so far.

I’m just blown away by how boring this is. It’s not the format, either. I’m not crazy about the playoff format, but I want close, tense games out of October baseball. Give me low-scoring games with late-game scenarios where guys are at the plate with a chance to be a postseason hero. We’ve seen none of that shit.

The only really exciting game we’ve gotten so far in October was game two between the Phillies and Braves, but even that comes with something of an asterisk. The Braves lost the next two games; it’s not like that moment rallied the team. Only the Philadelphia Phillies and their crazy crowds have given us any electric moments.

I can’t remember an October that was this dull. As I said, I can’t even blame the format for this, and I will blame the lack of storylines. I really don’t care if the Yankees are in the postseason, at least not in 2023. The same goes for teams like the Red Sox and the Cubs. I don’t need big market teams. I understand that it helps ratings, but personally, it doesn’t matter to me.

I just want to watch good baseball, and I feel like we haven’t seen much. Starting pitchers have been getting rocked. Teams have been sloppy in the field. Most of these games are decided by the fourth or fifth inning, which is bizarre for postseason baseball. That’s almost never the case.

Not everything is completely bleak. If we get and electric World Series, it’ll make up for a very boring first three rounds. I hope it happens. I also don’t think this postseason is indicative of what the future is going to hold. I think this year is just an outlier. It’s just a strange series of circumstances where the parity in baseball didn’t lend itself to many competitive games for whatever reason. The sport will be fine in the long run, but it is disappointing considering the great year that we’ve had.
