This Coach’s Speech Telling His Team He’s Cancer Free Is An All Time Some Things Are Bigger Than Sports Moment
This is what it’s all about. I remember Pregame speeches from all my coaches in High School. In the moments when every emotion, fear, excited, nervous, restless, cocky, scared, angry and antsy are all at their peak, coaches decide which of those they want to lean on to inspire you. Some go for the angle that the other team disrespects your hard work, others go for telling you to unleash your angry through a body tackle, and some pull on your heartstrings with an emotional story.
Coach Coovert went with the last one for his speech and told his players he not only had cancer, but he beat it. Talk about being ready to run through a wall. Every kid in that room likely thought about what kind of impact the coach had on their lives and harnessed it into their play on the field. To no surprise … Kingwood Park won 45-10 on Thursday night after this speech. Well done boys and happy to see coach back healthy, some things are bigger than sports.
