Surviving Barstool S4 Ep. 3 | Shocking Betrayal Rocks the TribesWATCH NOW

No, The Broadcaster Doesn't Hate Your Favorite Team. You're Just An Idiot

One of the easiest way to find out if someone has a giant bowl of mashed potatoes for brains is if you bring up a national broadcaster's name and they immediately go off on a rant about how that broadcaster hates their team. Doesn't matter if it's Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Bob Costas, Al Michaels, you name 'em. If you're a national broadcaster then turns out there are 30-32 fanbases across the league that think you hate the shit out of their team.

I mean what do you actually want out of this call from Bob Costas? It was a routine pop up to center. There was never any chance that ball was leaving the park. There was never any chance that catch wasn't going to be made. It was as routine as it gets. Do you expect this man to lose his goddamn mind over one of the most boring plays to end a game you could ask for? Literally anything would have been more exciting than that. A strikeout, a grounder with a close call at 1st, anything but a pop up to center. Bob Costas' energy perfectly matched that play. Yet people out there think that he hates that Diamondbacks and that's why he wasn't going berserk.

It's the other side of the same coin for Phillies fans losing their shit over the TBS broadcast call of that final double play to end game 2.

I hate that play just as much as any other Phillies fan. But you can't deny the fact that it was fucking electric. And Brian Anderson's energy on that call directly matched the energy the play provided. It was an insane play, that called for an insane call. Brian Anderson doesn't hate the Phillies, he's just matching the energy of the play.

Now here's the thing--there's a good chance that some broadcasters just aren't very good at their job. There's a good chance that Bob Costas just isn't great at calling a baseball game. But these guys don't hate every single team in the league just because you hate to hear their voice when your favorite team is losing. It's the most asinine conversation in sports, and it's been going on as long as games have been broadcasted. Someone needs to finally put an end to that conversation.
