Twins Fans Chanted "We Want Houston" After Beating The Jays, Which Is Rarely A Good Idea

The Twins are pretty big in the britches right now. They just won their first playoff series since 2002, and Target Field was rocking. I’m legitimately happy for Minnesota. They got the monkey off their back and thoroughly outplayed the Blue Jays in the Wild Card series. They deserve their flowers today. They were punching bags for a long time and have now returned to relevance. They have two excellent veteran starters in Sonny Gray and Pablo Lopez. If those guys can be nails during October, the Twins will be a tough out.

The next step is to go to Houston and play the Astros. While the Astros haven’t been good at home this season, they still have Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez lined up to go games one and two. It would be a tough order for anyone to go to Houston and win a few ball games, but the Twins fan base seems pretty confident. I don’t know if this is the smartest idea.

I don’t care if you’re the biggest Astros hater in the world, the one thing you can’t deny is that every time a team in the American League steps to the plate, thinking that they were going to land a knockout punch, Houston usually beat them in the first round of a heavyweight fight. Remember the Yankees last year? Aaron Judge had 62 home runs, yet they looked like a little league team in the ALCS.

I'm not abiding by the whole "act like you've been there "principle. In Minnesota's case, they haven't been there. I was seven years old the last time they won a playoff series. But at the same time, be careful what you wish for. Many have tried to knock off Houston over the last few years and failed. I won't get on the fans for being excited about the next series. Still, much like Aaron Judge blasting "New York, New York" after the Yankees won one playoff game in Boston in 2018, this stuff becomes bulletin board material if you lose and an all-time call-your-shot moment if you win. Good luck in the ALDS.
