George Kirby Threw A Knuckleball During His Start On Sunday To Honor The Late Tim Wakefield

Really cool move here with George Kirby throwing a knuckleball that apparently he had been working on for a while. Him breaking it out and letting it flutter up there on the day that Tim Wakefield passed away was a neat little way to honor the knuckleballer that we all knew and loved.

There wasn't an MVP Baseball game that I wouldn't trade for Wakefield just to be able to throw that thing and watch it dart all around with 0 spin on it. He was the man, so it's only right that Kirby would break out his pitch to honor the man and pitcher the baseball world lost on Sunday. A small gesture, but I think it was a very heartfelt one by Kirby to tip his cap and honor the guy that mesmerized us for years and years.

Klemmer did a great blog on Wakefield's life and Dave wrote an awesome blog about a fantastic story involving Wakefield's personal catcher getting traded back to Boston, definitely check those out as well. Maybe my favorite part of the whole pitch was how filthy it was. Look at that thing dive down! Kirby may want to keep working on that thing because he has something there. Be on the lookout for that next year, but until then, what a cool way to honor 49. RIP Tim.
