THE BOSTON CELTICS HAVE TRADED FOR JRUE HOLIDAY
HOLY. SHIT.
We all knew something was going to have to be settled by Media Day tomorrow, and after hearing that the Celts were in on the Jrue Holiday trade but were still far apart, I mostly expected to hear today that the deal was dead. In reality, Brad Stevens just made another massive trade. I never in a million years thought we would see an offseason where both Marcus Smart AND Robert Williams would both be traded. That doesn't even seem real.
As I blogged the other day, I don't particularly love it on the surface. I need to see what type of big man depth is going to be added to this team because heading into a season with just Porzingis/Horford/Kornet is playing with fire. To give up Brogdon's shooting AND Robert Williams just seems like a lot. I don't particularly care about the picks part, that's whatever. You knew it was going to take 2 1st round picks just to get into the conversation.
When Brad made the Smart for Porzingis trade I called it putting his legacy on the line, and this trade makes that even more true. There's no doubt that adding Jrue Holiday is a big time get at the position, but the question now becomes at what cost? You're best bench scorer and elite defensive center are now gone. Does this bring them closer to a title?
We're about to find out.
I'll update more as more details come out but holy shit. Brad really fucking did it.
