New York City Facts For Your Saturday Morning

I've been doing these NYC Facts every week for a few months now. They have been very fun to do and I know Dave loves them.

I also blogged earlier about some other ones I did and (some) people seemed to enjoy them. 

Here are some other ones I've done:

I've been interested in New York tunnels since I saw Daybreak with Sylvester Stallone. It was a horrible movie but the premise still scares the fuck out of me of being stuck in a tunnel. This one did better on TikTok than some other NYC Facts I've done so maybe tunnels are interesting to people? Taping this, I worried that cop behind me would yell at Vibbs and I while we were taping it but no one said a peep.

I was going to talk about how Jackie Kennedy Onassis had more to do with saving Grand Central Terminal (not station. I was corrected by many people).  Instead, I found out that someone tried to bomb Grand Central so I wanted to get that in there instead. So many things happen in New York City that shit gets lost so quickly due to time.

I'd like to do more movie and television locations. This Ghostbusters one was fun because the firehouse leans into it. I also didn't know when it was built originally, it had two garage bays.

This is my 2nd most viewed on on TikTok. It's wild how little has changed since this day in 1980. It's still a beautiful apartment building overlooking Central Park. But it does have an odd energy to it now and it almost feels like I shouldn't be there. I'm sure a lot of that is imagined because I know the significance of the location but I can't believe Yoko Ono stayed there until very recently.

This is my most viewed TikTok one. I think it's an interesting story but not something I expected to be the biggest. The story of Joseph Ardizzone is very interesting. You are so close to the most fascinating city in the world and you are living somewhere that doesn't have basic plumbing.

I've loved doing these every week. It makes me appreciate the city even more than I did before. I also need to sing the praises of Tommy Smokes blog yesterday which really captured what it's like living in New York City.
