Zach Johnson Has Gotta Be Fucking Joking With This Incredibly Lame Quote About Being 'Extremely Proud' Of What Team USA Did Today
Nah, that's all I need to see to say you can't have Zach Johnson at the Ryder Cup the rest of the weekend. Hey, he's a nice guy. He's an Iowan and John Deere Classic legend. But you can't be saying you're proud of what the team has done when this shit is going on:
Outside of Sunday at Medinah I can't think of a more embarrassing or disaster Ryder Cup in my life. You are trying to break this 30-year streak. You have guys all in their prime and returning a bunch of dudes from the last Ryder Cup. Instead you get swept in the early session and choke 3 matches away on 18 in the afternoon.
We can criticize ZJ for not sending JT/Spieth out in the morning. We can criticize him for benching Brooks early or going Sam Burns in the first group. You want to argue about whether or not Burns should be there? Fine. All fair things to argue. You can't argue that today was something to be proud of. There's this thing called a scoreboard in sports which tells the story and is the end all, be all. That scoreboard tells us we got our ass kicked and set history by not winning a match for the first time ever in a Ryder Cup day. It's a complete embarrassment.
I know this is out there:
But come on. Even if the guys are battling the meanest of colds, you can't say you're proud after choking away those matches on 18. You had a chance to make it a close Cup. You had a chance to have everyone forget about getting swept early.
You now need a minor miracle. The US needs to win by a minimum 2.5 points tomorrow to have a chance. Cutting the lead to 2.5 going into singles at least gives you a shot. But proud? Come on, be a leader. I'm not saying you have to flat out say the guys sucked on the course today, but you can't be saying you're proud. At least go the '99 Ben Crenshaw route.
