Marlins Manager Skip Schumacher Was PISSED At The New York Mets Grounds Crew After Last Night's Game Got Delayed
I highly doubt whoever that member of the grounds crew is that he thought he was going to get a lashing from Skip Schumaker yesterday. I dig the passion. The Marlins are closer to the postseason in a full campaign than they’ve been since they won the World Series in 2003. I know they made the playoffs in the Covid year. That doesn’t count. Skip Schumaker, a first-year manager for the Marlins, wants to see this team in October. The Cubs are collapsing. The Marlins are trying to take advantage of that last Wild Card spot. They rallied back in the ninth inning last night to take the lead against the New York Mets, and then Mother Nature reared its ugly head.
Right now, the Marlins are leading the Mets 2–1 in the top of the ninth with runners on first and second and two outs. They are three defensive outs away from wrapping up a huge victory against the Mets. What had Skip Schumaker so peeved is that the Marlins have a series starting tonight in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. As it stands right now, the Miami Marlins are going to play a three-game set against the Pirates, and if necessary, they’ll have to fly back to Queens to collect three defensive outs against the Mets on Monday. That could decide who gets that last Wild Card spot. To add insult to injury, the Mets grounds crew thought it was a good idea to get a team photo as this entire debacle was happening.
This is the kind of chaotic shit that I want and yearn for in the final week of the baseball season. I want to see 20 people in the stands at Citi Field to watch the Marlins record three outs on Monday. By all accounts, it seemed as though Schumacher had a legitimate gripe. There was a solid window in which they could’ve finished this game, and they didn’t. But it’s led to more chaos, and I’m all here for it.
