The Warriors Sign Rodney McGruder And Seem Determined To Build The Most Awkward Locker Room Of All Time

Alright, now this may be confusing to the majority of the people who may have clicked on this blog. Who gives a shit about Rodney McGruder? Who even if Rodney McGruder? Both fair questions unless you're a sicko and actually pay attention to this kind of stuff. McGruder is a 6'4 31 year old SG who has played the last three seasons with the Pistons who shot at least 42% from deep in two of those years. Not a ton of volume (3.0 3PA) but for a team looking to round out their roster having a vet who is known to knock down threes certainly isn't the worst idea.

The thing is, there's also this one small detail. He's joining a team that just a few years ago had this to say

Let's just take a step back and talk about the Warriors offseason so far. They kicked things off by trading for Chris Paul, something that still is going to take a while for my brain to get used to. A bold strategy despite there being a clear beef between Paul and essentially the entire Warriors franchise. Then you add in the drama of Paul not really being interested in coming off the bench, and even today Steve Kerr didn't exactly have any idea what his starting group would look like

I dunno, call me crazy but this has the potential to be a bit of an issue. It seems crazy to break up a starting 5 unit that not only has the chemistry together but has also been extremely dominant for years when they share the floor together just so you can make sure Chris Paul doesn't throw a temper tantrum. That feels a little backwards. 

Then you add in all the surrounding uncertainty and drama of this being Steve Kerr AND Klay's last year of their deals with no extension in sight, to which the front office also said today that when it comes to Klay there really isn't a timetable on his extension. That could very well turn into an issue too.

So on top of all that, you decide to bring this Rodney McGruder drama into the mix as well. Seems a little unnecessary to even risk adding even the slightest bit of drama/distractions to your roster for a guy that most likely would never play anyway. And hey, all that shit that Klay and Draymond talked was a few years ago so maybe it's all water under the bridge at this point. Or maybe he doesn't even make the roster out of camp which is entirely possible too. But from the outside looking in as things stand at this moment, I think it's OK to have questions as to how this is all going to work.

Of course, as with everything when it comes to potential questions around the Warriors, at the end of the day all that matters is that this guy is still alive and well

As long as Steph continues to play at an MVP level, you can overcome pretty much everything. Well, not Draymond punching a teammate in the face, the Warriors ended up never being able to get past that, but everything else should be a piece of cake (Chris Paul Playoff Curse TBD).
