Urban Meyer Says Michigan And Georgia Should Literally Not Be Allowed To Play The Weak Schedules They Have

Okay so Urban Meyer might not be the most notorious truth teller that this world has ever seen, but when he's right he's right. I know that College Football is still the best product on Earth, but I'm getting worried about where we're headed. The sport is fighting too many battles on too many fronts right now, and something gets us all in the end. Conference realignment sucks. NIL sucks. And as Urban so eloquently points out here, the scheduling of the teams vying for the College Football Playoff appears to be getting extremely watered down. 

Here's #2 Michigan's non-conference: East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green

That's flat out embarrassing, but then you see that it's outdone by #1 Georgia's non-conference: UT Martin, Ball State, UAB, and Georgia Tech

And not only are they not being punished, they're being REWARDED for playing more cupcakes than what you'd find in a bakery. Honestly, how the fuck is Georgia #1 and Michigan #2 in the country right now? They haven't looked good and they haven't beaten anybody. And I hate to make this about Ohio State, but if we were only up 7-6 on Bowling Green and our QB threw 3 picks like Michigan's did, we'd fall 10 spots. And if we were down 14-3 at the half at HOME to an unranked opponent like Georgia was, we'd drop out of the rankings. But for Michigan and Georgia, it's business as usual. Texas beat Bama at Bama, and Florida State beat LSU. But neither of them can jump into the top 2 because Michigan clawed their way to a big second half victory over Bowling Green.

I'm just afraid of where we're headed. There is zero incentive for a program to play big games anymore if the conference doesn't make them. And with 12 teams making the playoffs starting next season, anyone worth a damn can lose for sure 1 and probably 2 games per year and still make the playoff. So in what world would you potentially lose a game before conference play even begins? Beat the Sisters of the Blind by 50, have a good year where you only drop 1 or 2 games in conference play, and advance to the playoff. It's a simple formula for the SEC and Big Ten moving forward.

Seeing Michigan and Georgia play a high school schedule and get treated like royalty for blasting the peewee teams makes me question why Ohio State is going on the road to play a top 10 Notre Dame team this weekend. Urban agrees, and he says:

So why would Ohio State play this game? Well, because it’s the right thing to do, it’s for the fans, it’s for the good of the game. It’s for everybody.”

Good point. At least someone still respects competition in this sport.

**Please do not look ahead at Ohio State's schedule next year so you cannot point out that we play Southern Miss, Western Michigan and Marshall. But then again, why not do that like everyone else? If you can't beat em, join em!
