After Four Seasons Of Going Nowhere The Boston Red Sox Have Fired Chaim Bloom

The Red Sox dropped the hammer today and fired their chief baseball officer/GM Chaim Bloom. It's a move no one saw coming. Absolutely nobody. 

P.S.A. If midseason to you doesn't mean during the seasn then this conversation is too intellectual for you anyways. You know you're right when you got gremlins arguing that at you. 

The Chaim Bloom era was basically a disaster for the Red Sox since the jump. No doubt he started with a disadvantage having been ordered to not only trade Mookie Betts, but also attach David Price's contract in that deal. Still, what he got back was abysmal and will go down in baseball history as one of the worst trades the sport has ever seen. If you want to totally discount that move from his ledger I don't have a problem with that. Everything after it though, for the most part, sucked. 

Hunter Renfroe for Jackie Bradley Jr, not entertaining a Schwarber reunion, the Trevor Story contract, not addressing any bullpen needs when they were in winning positions, multiple whiffs at the trade deadline, believing Corey Kluber was an answer, the list goes on and on. 

Bloom was hired in October of 2019. With Boston currently tied at the bottom of the East as I type this, he's potentially looking at three last place finishes in four seasons. The one outlier in 2021 had a formidable, fun offense, but Bloom quickly moved along from that roster and refused to build on it. While part of that may have been a refusal from upstairs to shell out any cash, it was still crazy to see how they gave up on that core so fast. 

I'm sure there's Sox fans who will defend how he's built up the farm, but that area is currently ranked 16th in the sport per MLB pipeline. You'd think being this bad would have them in a top tier position there. Bloom has failed to do that as well so Boston had to move on. 

You could have also suggested Cora to get let go. While he's made a ton of questionable decisions this season, he appears safe. Not only that, but he could be in the running for the newly vacant position. 

The sad part about all of this as I watch from the Yankees perspective is that I come away jealous. Don't get me wrong, John Henry is a clown, but at least he had the thought to move on from a GM that was in over his head. Is it a bit of a scapegoat move? Sure, but at least he's looking for a new voice to switch things up. I've had to watch Brian Cashman make failing move after failing move with no consequences to follow. That motherfucker got a brand new four year deal in the offseason despite his incompetency. Guy should be arrested for his crimes. 

As for potential candidates outside Cora to replace Bloom here's a short list

If they get Mejdal I'll lose my fucking mind. That guy has helped build up Houston and Baltimore now. Please don't let Boston get him. 

As for today though, that makes two wild predictions I was correct about. Manoah being too fat to pitch and Chaim not surviving the season. Sucks whenever I say things about the Yankees though they don't come close to correct. Dammit.
