1. Children of Men - 94/100
In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind.
This scene above is maybe the only movie scene that makes me cry every time I've watched it. Such a great, perfectly executed scifi movie with great actors throughout.
2. Red Dawn - 99/100
It is the dawn of World War III. In mid-western America, a group of teenagers band together to defend their town—and their country—from invading Soviet forces.
Like most of you, I watched this movie with my dad while he gave me nudges going "Take notes, that might be us one day". It still holds up as a great movie despite having one of the worst remakes ever made.
3. The Break Up - 80/100
A couple's break-up proceeds to get uglier and nastier by the moment as each tries to keep their luxurious condo from the other.
Vince Vaughn had such an under-appreciated actor when you consider how much he dominated comedies in the early 2000s. This is no different. Great movie that is super easy to watch, especially with your s/o.
4. The Chronicles of Riddick - 49/100
After years of outrunning ruthless bounty hunters, escaped convict Riddick suddenly finds himself caught between opposing forces in a fight for the future of the human race. Now, waging incredible battles on fantastic and deadly worlds, this lone, reluctant hero will emerge as humanity's champion - and the last hope for a universe on the edge of annihilation.
I know it's a low score but that's just the bastard of objectivity. I love this movie. It's super 2000s but the effects are surprisingly solid, lines are badass and the fights are cool. Tough to ask much more from a movie from this era.
5. The Covenant - 73/100
During the war in Afghanistan, a local interpreter risks his own life to carry an injured sergeant across miles of grueling terrain.
This movie flew under the radar this year and came out against a very similar movie starring Gerard Butler. That said, it's solid! Nothing revolutionary and you can predict everything that is gonna happen, but it's well executed.
