We're Relying On 2 NL East Teams To Carry Us For Today's Gambling Picks

There was nothing disastrous about yesterday's gambling day. It wasn't exactly a banner day, either. Ian Happ did not deliver on our home run prop, and the San Francisco Giants looked completely dead in their ball game against the Cincinnati Reds. I still can't figure that Giants team out. We got a victory in extra innings when the Rays got three runs across the board in the 10th to beat the Miami Marlins. As expected, Zach Eflin was fantastic for Tampa Bay. David Robertson has been a complete disaster since being acquired from the Mets. I like the Marlins this year, but it seems like the wheels have fallen off. So we are still in a good place. It's all about avoiding those 0–3 days. It's a very light board, but I still like a few plays. Let's take a look at today's picks.

Marlins -1.5 (+105) against the Nationals

I am being very hypocritical here. I just got done talking about how I don't think the Miami Marlins have the horses to keep up and fight for a wildcard spot. For some reason, the Washington Nationals have been somewhat steady over the last few months. It's not a good team, but they're a scrappy bunch. It's clear that they play for Davey Martinez. But I like Braxton Garrett on the mound here for the Marlins. He has a 2.91 ERA over his last six appearances and loves to pound the strike zone. He has had two outings against Washington this year, and he's put together quality starts in both, posting an ERA of 3.00 in those outings. The Marlins have really been scuffling, but I feel like they're due for a bounce back day.

Braves -1.5 (+120) against the Dodgers

This is the biggest series we've seen in the National League so far this season. The Dodgers have been crazy hot, and, with a series win, could put themselves in a position to, at some point, jump the Atlanta Braves for the best record in major league baseball. What may stop them from doing that is Spencer Strider. I feel like any opportunity you get to go with the Braves at plus money is an opportunity you have to take, even if it is against a team as good as the Dodgers. Strider has been marvelous over his last three starts, posting a microscopic ERA of 0.43. We've always known about how nasty his stuff is, but he had struggled with some inconsistency this year. He may have that figured out. Lance Lynn is going to the Dodgers. He has been excellent since being acquired by Los Angeles, but it's hard for me to bet on even the best pitcher to shove against this historically good Braves offense. I'm going with Atlanta on the road today.
