France Is Trying To Destroy 80 Million Gallons Of Surplus Wine So I Had To Come On The Scene To Help

The French government will pay its wine producers some $216 million to destroy nearly 80 million gallons of surplus vino that they were unable to sell.

French wine producers are getting bailed out after being hammered by a confluence of difficulties — including overproduction, inflation, skyrocketing costs and changing drinking habits among French citizens opting for other beverage choices in a hyper-competitive environment.

GASP! C'EST IMPOSSIBLE! How could we possibly have let this happen? Who isn't drinking FRENCH WINE?! How are they planning to destroy it?? Why aren't we shipping cases directly to my apartment?? There are simply too many unanswered questions here. I heard this news and I boarded the next flight to Provence. We can't let all this wine go to waste.

Yes, I was being serious. I am currently writing this blog from the bed of the 5 star hotel I booked for myself in Aix en Provence. Whine With Kelly is BACK. For those who don't know, WWK was my big break back in 2015. After #PlaneBreakup, I was convinced (shoutout Brendan Clancy) to start a podcast and take advantage of the situation. The things I liked most - complaining, and wine. It really rolls off the tongue. It was a podcast in its former life, with lots of instagram videos of me hammered in Napa with my friends drinking so much wine that Nate started writing his joke about my black liver 5 years ago. I loved doing both, but eventually I couldn't put my all into it at the same time as a full time job in publishing. I had to choose food and insurance over my one simple joy, and I hung it up for a few years. When I finally got to be full time at Barstool, I wanted to bring it back, but it didn't feel like the right time. I also didn't know what I wanted it to look like - the same? A video series? Youtube? Trying to break back into the podcast game is tough, and we have so many of those at Barstool. I waited in the wings while WWK collected dust, waiting to be pulled down from the shelf.

This year it finally felt like the time. I tried to replicate a little bit of WWK's original magic with On The Other Line, and it was great on Sling, but when we tried to turn it into a regular podcast, it just wasn't taking off the same. My heart wasn't all the way in it anymore. I went to Erika, asked if I could finally reach back into my soul and release my inner Basic Bitch, and she said YES!

So, as of now, Whine With Kelly lives on Instagram and Tiktok. I'm working on stuff for Youtube...TBD on when that will see the light of day. I've complained on Twitter but video editing is VERY hard for me. Audio? No problem. But to be producing at the caliber of the team Barstool already has? I'm just not up to par yet. We'll get there. I'm not sure I've ever told him this, but I use Robbie Fox as my goal. Beyond successful at the topics he covers and completely self sufficient. THAT COULD BE ME TOO!

While I help France with their surplus problem, I'll be posting all about the journey. I'll be here for 3 more days, and then I head off to Greece for...you guessed it! More wine. If all this goes well, I hope to bring myself to as many places as I can. I WILL DRINK ALL THE WINE IN THE WORLD!
