Friday Night Is 1000% Part Of The Weekend

I’m sorry but Hank is dead wrong. Friday night is 1000% part of the weekend.

As the clock strikes 5 on Friday, a collective sense of anticipation and excitement fills work places and schools across the country. It's more than a gateway to the weekend, it is the weekend. This is common knowledge, everybody but Hank knows that the weekend starts the second you get out of school or work.

As a kid there was no better feeling than hearing that final bell ring on a Friday. It's a universal sign to every kid in the school that you're free. You were free to do hood rat shit with your friends, stay up past 10PM, play video games, and eat pizza rolls until you passed out. That's what Friday is all about.

Friday afternoon is the best day of the weekend. Everyone is down for whatever. Friday is a magical transition between the world of obligations and the realm of possibilities. It's the day when we embrace who we really are. The whole week you're living by the book, following your diet, going to the gym, doing all the things you don't want to do, but have to do. Then Friday comes and it's all thrown out the window. Why? Because you're finally free to do whatever the fuck you want to do. The mere thought of two full days, uninterrupted by meetings and emails, sets the stage for an egregious night with the boys. You want to drink 15 beers tonight? Do it, it's fucking Friday. The only thing you have to worry about is waking up in time for College Gameday, and if you can't do that, you're not built for the big leagues.

Don't get it twisted I love Saturdays and Sundays, but neither of them come close to a Friday night. Saturdays are great, but you know you're going have to deal with the Sunday scarys the next day. Sundays are great because of football, but you know that you're going to have to roll out of bed at 6:30-7AM and go back to work.

Friday resurrects the joy that sometimes gets buried beneath work related stress. I'm very lucky that I love my job so my itch for Friday doesn't burn as much as it used when I was selling health insurance for 12 hours a day. But regardless of what your job is, just look around and I'll bet you find even the most miserable person in your office smiling more, interacting with colleagues, and maybe even laughing. Friday is not just a day on the calendar; it's a state of mind, an embodiment of freedom and joy. Friday afternoon is what America is all about. Work your fucking ass off, and do whatever the fuck you want. So whether you're a kid in school, or an adult at work, don't ever let anyone tell you that Friday is not the weekend, because it is.
