Ian Happ Saved My Gambling Ass Yesterday

Home run props to the rescue, baby! Ian Happ saved my ass again. I figured he would go deep against Mitch Keller, but that was not the case. Happ waited until his final at-bat to go deep last night, leading to a great gambling day. The Dodgers also covered on the run line against the Boston Red Sox. The Cincinnati Reds could not knock off the Arizona Diamondbacks, but we don't have to talk about that. We are so back. There is zero consistency to these picks. Sometimes I am on fire, and sometimes I am crazy cold. Yesterday was one of our great days. I needed it. Let's stay hot and take a look at today's picks. 

Blue Jays -1.5 (+125) against the Guardians

I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. I've bet on the Blue Jays 1 million times this year, and they've let me down every time. I don't think the Guardians are good at all. Their offense is a disaster, and they're facing a pitcher in Hyun Jin Ryu, who has been quite good since coming off of the I.L. Last night was one of those games that shows why I have trouble putting my faith in the Blue Jays. They had Chris Bassitt on my mound and lost a game to the Guardians team that looks like they're going through the motions sometimes. Toronto needs a bounce-back game. I feel like I'm setting myself up for disaster by putting my faith in Toronto, but I'm putting my face in them nonetheless. 

Rangers -1.5 (+145) against the Twins

Until the last week, the Texas Rangers had been arguably the most consistent team in the American League. While they are still in first place in the AL West, they have been a mess lately. They've lost eight games in a row and are now tied for the lead in their division. They traded for Max Scherzer because of days like this. They need someone to stop the bleeding. While Max is a far cry from being the Cy Young caliber pitcher that he was during the heart of his prime, he is still capable of pitching some really good baseball. It sounds bizarre saying this about a game in late August, but I would almost categorize this as a must-win for the Texas Rangers. They need a spark. I think Mad Max will provide that. 

Bryce Harper to homer (+380) against the Cardinals

There were some really juicy home run props that I was looking at today, but none of them had great value. I wanted to put my money on Mookie Betts to go deep against his former team. I feel like he's going to at some point in the series at Fenway, but Bryce Harper has gotten crazy hot in August. His power numbers have been down this season, and that makes sense. He came back from Tommy John surgery in seemingly record time. But he's starting to lift the ball again, and he's going up against a starting pitcher who he has great numbers against. Seven plate appearances is a very small sample size, but in that time, Harper has four hits, including a home run. Considering how good he's looked lately, +380 is pretty solid value here.
