Miguel Cabrera Was Ready To Spar With Jose Ramirez After Receiving His Retirement Gift

OK, that title is a little bit misleading. Miguel Cabrera was just doing a Miguel Cabrera things. I don’t know if there’s a player in his generation who enjoys fucking around with opponents more than he does. Sometimes, that does have a tendency to get a little bit tiring. But considering he’s in the latter stages of what has been a remarkable first-ballot Hall of Fame career, it’s clear Miggy is enjoying every second of this retirement tour, as well as it should. 

These are the kind of baseball moments that I love. It's the ultimate show respect. You have Miguel Cabrera, who has tortured Cleveland his entire career. Miggy has tortured a lot of teams. He's a first-ballot Hall of Famer for a reason, but I swear he sucked out Cleveland's soul time and time again when he was at the peak of his career. On the other end, you have Jose Ramirez, who has done the same thing to Detroit 1 million times over. Considering how subpar Cleveland's offense has been, I'm inclined to hold up four fingers every time Jose Ramirez steps to the plate. Put them on base, don't let them kill you more than he already has. I'm sure Cleveland fans felt that way about Miggy for a long time. It's one Hall of Famer joking around and receiving a gift from a guy who may potentially end up in Cooperstown one day. That's the good stuff. 

Everyone knows how good of a player Jose Ramirez is, but I kind of feel like that knockout of Tim Anderson earned him a permanent place in baseball history. You do not want to fuck with J-Ram. I don't know how he feels about that. He might be a little bit embarrassed, even though he shouldn't be. The dude is one of the best players of his generation, and he has a mean right hook. 

With that said, Miguel Cabrera isn't exactly a pacifist. He's been involved in a few run-ins of his own. The 2017 brawl against the Yankees gets overlooked. It's even funnier to watch, knowing that several years later Austin Romine, who Miguel Cabrera pummeled in that brawl, ended up being teammates with Miggy in 2020. 

There's not much else to say except for the fact that these Miggy moments are going to be going away pretty soon. I've written about it before, but it is going to be very weird coming to terms with the fact that Miguel Cabrera will not be wearing a Tiger uniform next year. It's for the best. His best days are definitely behind him, but it's one of those things that Tiger fans are just used to. We've watched in awe when he's performed at his peak, and we've laughed because, well, the guy has a tendency to be a giant goofball. We have to enjoy these moments while we got them.
