Jon Stewart's First Post-Daily Show Gig Is Hosting SummerSlam This Sunday
Yahoo – Jon Stewart just booked his dream job. No, it wasn’t serving as host of “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central for the last 16 years. World Wrestling Entertainment announced Monday that Stewart would host this weekend’s “SummerSlam” pay-per-view from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. A longtime wrestling fan, Stewart appeared on WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” prior to WrestleMania XXX in March and Rollins eventually returned the favor with a cameo on “The Daily Show” before Stewart stepped away from the popular nightly news show earlier this month. Rollins is scheduled to defend his WWE championship against United States champion John Cena in a title-for-title match. Not saying the fix is in, but something tells me Cena could have the advantage against Rollins with Stewart roaming around in the arena. “SummerSlam” is traditionally the WWE’s second biggest PPV of the year behind “WrestleMania” and the company is pulling out all the stops in order to generate some mainstream buzz.

SummerSlam is this Sunday and WWE announced yesterday that none other than the former host of the Daily Show Jon Stewart is hosting. What does a host do? Cracks some jokes backstage, does little bits with wrestlers here and there, and allows WWE to stretch SummerSlam out for 4 hours, basically. But unlike other terrible hosts WWE has used before, Jon Stewart is legit. For one, he’s a wrestling fan. For 2, he’s been involved with a feud with Seth Rollins for a year now, with each going on each other’s show. With Rollins still WWE Champion, and facing the biggest name in wrestling John Cena, it definitely makes the match more intriguing to the casual viewer. While doing extensive research for this blog, I saw a lot of tweets from Stewart fans saying they will be watching wrestling for the first time now. The good news for them is there are 10 matches planned. The card is pretty good. And with NXT having a show on Saturday night that will no doubt be A+, the WWE guys will be looking to steal the show. I’ll have a full preview on Friday, but I have pretty high hopes for SummerSlam, and Stewart hosting should go over very well.
