Pete Carroll Can Still Spin It At Age 71, But Some Haters Will Say His Practice Highlights Have Fake Footage
Pete Carroll is out here in the heat of training camp at 71 years young doing full-field runs in his khakis and slinging the rock like he belongs in the damn league. Even Snoop Dogg is taking notice. The Seattle Seahawks head coach brings an uncanny, youthful exuberance and energy to each and every day that is probably the envy of 99% of the general population.
Chances are we could see a Longest Yard scenario this season if Geno Smith and Drew Lock are forced out of action. I can only hope that at Carroll's age I can still move like this, and be able to put some zip on the ball without my right arm dislodging from its socket or my hips exploding out of place. Because any good QB knows, all that force and torque comes from the ground up!
But we're getting alternate arm angles, on-the-run dots, and the whole array of Carroll's arsenal in these highlights. At a certain point in the video, though, things start to look a little funny. There's a one-handed catch by rookie first-round wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba in particular that feels a tad familiar...
Nothing to see here, I say. If this is, in fact, editing wizardry by the Seahawks social media team, more power to them. I'll live in blissful ignorance and pretend like I didn't notice the uncanny similarities to JSN pulling that thing down between two defenders off a Carroll dime.
At least 75% or so of those practice cutups are genuine Pete Carroll special deliveries. Give or take 35%. I wouldn't have been so late to document this but my birthday and Rough N' Rowdy happened to be yesterday, so I was a little indisposed. Wish I could say it was due to having a rager of a party but I'm a loser as all you enlightened beings in the comment section know all too well. It was more about dealing with a condition of sorts. That's why I was so moved to still post about Pistol Pete 2.0 given his septuagenarian status and impeccable physical health. Here I am struggling at freshly 34 and here Pete is throwing piss missiles to NFL pass-catchers.
With all the QBs turning down Netflix's Quarterback series for Season 2 — I refuse to blog about Joe Burrow's alleged/"reported" involvement until Joe Brrr himself confirms he's signed on — maybe the Seahawks X poster is on to something. Peyton Manning needs to get Carroll in the fold. Or, you know, do the sensible thing and recruit Geno Smith. What a fascinating guy he'd be to follow around. Geno isn't getting paid top-of-market QB money as of now. He's reportedly turned them down already, but I'd up whatever the offer is if I'm Netflix and try him again. Just gotta hope he writes back, though.
