As Bad As Marcus Mariota Has Been This Preseason, Nick Foles Isn't The Answer You're Searching For As An Eagles Fan

There's not a city in the world that falls in love harder with a backup quarterback than Philadelphia. Maybe that's because deep down inside, we feel like we're the backup quarterback of the United States. Constantly underestimated, often overlooked, just waiting for a chance to prove ourselves. We see much of ourselves in the backup quarterback, and there's nobody who roots harder for the guy mostly holding the clipboard than the folks at Lincoln Financial Field every Sunday.

So with that being the case, do you have any idea how poorly and uninspiring you have to play as a backup QB in order to make Philly fans hate you? It has to be a total train wreck with zero redeeming qualities. And that's where we're at right now with Marcus Mariota.

It's been a tough scene to watch. And maybe Marcus Mariota has an unfair expectation set on him by Philly fans since we once spent an entire offseason debating about how many 1st round draft picks we'd be willing to give up in order to move up in the draft for him. These fans were ready to mortgage our entire future on this guy coming out of college. Obviously the Eagles wouldn't be getting that same guy now in 2023, but we're through 2 preseason games right now and there hasn't been a single moment that would make anyone comfortable with starting the season with him at QB2.

Which has caused most of the fanbase to set out on a search for a new QB2. One name that keeps popping up?

Large Cock Nicholas.

Listen. I get it. Who doesn't love reminiscing about the good ol' days? There's nothing that gets people going quite like trying to recapture that magic from the past. There's a reason why Eagles fans started lining up at 3:30 in the morning to buy the new Kelly green jerseys.

But sometimes it's best to leave the past in the past. Sometimes it's best to let a good thing end as a good thing, instead of dragging it out towards its inevitable catastrophic death. And while it's not like Nick Foles necessarily "went out on top" with his time here in Philadelphia, he left soon enough to it. The #1 memory for in Philadelphia when it comes to Nick Foles will always be him lifting the Lombardi Trophy. The following season wasn't great enough to remember, but also wasn't tragic enough to remember either. So we can just forget about it and remember Nick Foles as the first Super Bowl winning Eagles quarterback of our lifetime. And that's how it should stay forever.

Imagine bringing Nick Foles back now, Jalen Hurts gets dinged up a little bit in the middle of the season, and Foles goes out there and plays like complete and utter dog shit for a couple games. We'll still always remember him as the Super Bowl winning quarterback, but that memory will be tainted. Try as you may to just remember him lifting the Lombardi Trophy, but you'll never be able to get the picture of him barely able to move out there and throwing interception after interception.

Tanner McKee might actually have something there. You can wait for someone else to get cut at some point in the coming weeks. Go out and trade for a guy. But just let Nick Foles go. Maybe there will be a time he can come back as a coach or something. But any other snap he'd ever take as an Eagle would chip away at the memory you already have of him.

Go Birds. Go QB2 Tanner McKee.
