David Krejci Officially Retires And The Boston Bruins Of My Child/Adulthood Are Officially Over
Even though I knew it was coming, it doesn't make it hurt any less... David Krejci has officially announced his retirement from the NHL and the Boston Bruins that I knew from my child/adulthood are officially over. I feel like I'm mourning Krejci's career a SECOND time after he decided to go back to the Czech Republic and play in 2021. What a painful summer it's been for B's fans, a heartbreaking choke job in the playoffs after being the best regular season team, ever. Patrice Bergeron retiring. David Krejci retiring. I truly don't know if I can endure any more pain at the moment. I'm numb. I grew up watching these guys and now they are gone, FUCK! It doesn't get any easier,,, although just give me like 3 games into the new Centennial season (new jerseys will be a nice distraction) and I'll proclaim the Bruins Stanley Cup contenders as I have done every year for the last 29 years of my life. Being a delusional sports fan doesn't end even when your favorite players hang them up. The beauty of sports is being able to share them with those you love (and strangers on the internet), calling your dad the morning after a brutal loss and pretending you're on talk radio, buying every jersey even though they definitely cost too way much and you're just lining the owner's pockets. The beauty of sports is being emotional over people calling it a career, but realizing you're growing up too. While these are no longer the Bruins I used to know, I'm excited about the future. I'm excited to continue to share this passion with my daughter. I'm excited to grow old and go to a million more games, complain a million times about the GM and management, and spend a million more dollars on everything and anything about this team because it's all I've known.
So congratulations and thank you to David Krejci on an outstanding career. This goal against Tampa in Game 7 where he sets up Nathan Horton for the one and only goal will be engrained in my brain forever.
Stanley Cup Champion. 16 seasons. 1,032 games. 786 points. So under appreciated by fans at time. The Bruins have a long list but I imagine 46 will be in the rafters one day.
It's fine, I'm fine.
