Michael Lorenzen's No-Hitter Completed Possibly The Most Unbelievable Statistic In Sports History

This is the most ridiculous stat I've ever seen and I'm not sure what could possibly top it. Michael Lorenzen's no-hitter in his second start for the Phillies continued the tradition of every Major League pitcher from his high school having thrown one.

Estimating that half of the just over 20,000 players in MLB history have been pitchers, there's about a 3 percent chance any given pitcher will throw a no-hitter in his career. So the odds of any four pitchers all throwing one would be 0.00008 percent, which somehow still seems high.

Fullerton Union would have "No-Hitter High" t-shirts on sale today if they knew what was good for them. I'd probably buy one just for how insane this stat is and I have no connection to that school at all.

I pity the next pitcher to make it to the bigs from FU now that this stat is out there, though, because the pressure is going to be on from the jump. I hope we give it 20 years or so before we have another one so this stat can breathe. I don't want another Fullerton Union pitcher on a Major League mound unless he is a certified dude ready to continue his school's proud legacy.
