Comerica Park Security Needs An Upgrade After A Fan Went Sprinting Around The Field For A Whole Two Minutes

Man, I don’t want to question anyone’s work ethic or conditioning, but two minutes seems like a long time. In typical broadcasting fashion, when this fan ran onto the field, the TV crew in Detroit felt it necessary not to show him on the screen to avoid giving him any attention. I guess I understand that. I know that it’s proper etiquette. At the same time, we live in the age of smartphones. You had beat writers recording this stuff. You knew it was going to get out anyway. Idiots running onto the field for no reason is usually played out, but I got to give this dude credit. If this was a Yankee Stadium, this guy would’ve been demolished before stepping down to the field. To be out there for an entire two minutes is pretty good. Send the schedule to Atlanta. Maybe you can beat The Freeze.

I’m probably being slightly too harsh by calling out security here. I feel like everyone in the Detroit Tigers organization is going through the motions now. I also wanted to ask this one quick question: does a streaker mean that the person is naked, or could a streaker be a fully clothed person running/streaking across the field? I feel like I should’ve learned that when I was younger and never did. As funny as this is, this dude sadly takes home just the Silver Medal for the 2023 MLB Streaker Olympics. The dude in Oakland who ran across the entire field this year easily takes the Gold Medal.

There needs to be some rules and regulations for guys who run out to the field. If you go full two minutes, you deserve to be taken in, but I would argue you don't deserve a lifetime ban, which is usually what these fans get. If you outclass the security guards, you deserve some leeway. The dude who ran the bases in Oakland this year put in more effort at the Coliseum than the A's front office has in the last three years. There's something to be said for that. By no means do I encourage anyone to run onto the field during a baseball game, but if you're going to do it, you must come correct.
