'The Continental' Might Be The First Miss For The World Of John Wick
The Continental is a chain of hotels located all around the world that function as a neutral territory for members of the criminal underworld. They are frequented by many hitmen and notorious murderers.
This show has been in the works for a bit and they've dropped a few teasers and trailers that I've blogged as well. I was a little more excited before but, the more i watch, the more I'm starting to think that this might be it. John Wick has been an impossible 4/4 on their movies and this show is just starting to feel like what will destroy that perfect record. Two things stood out to me in this recent trailer.
1. There is obviously going to be a romance angle. To me, the lack of romance is part of what helped differentiate John Wick from all the other dumpy action movies. We just don't need it! We don't need to get "emotional depth" through a hero caring about a woman or man. Fuck that. All it does is wastes time.
2. There is just a weird, crappy quality to the CGI that is very T.V. One of the things I was hoping was that, since this is a miniseries, that more cash would be pumped into the that aspect.
The biggest thing is that they nail the fights. That is what sells John Wick as a franchise and it NEEDS to be nailed. Not sure I have faith in that working out.
