Mirna was an attractive young girl with a degree in fashion design whose first job was with a high-end clothing company in New York City. She and her widowed mother shared a small apartment in Queens and a similar ambition to marry a wealthy man.

After only a couple of months on the job, Mirna returned home from work, eyes red, mascara running, and crying uncontrollably. As soon as she entered the apartment, she began screaming, "Mama, Mama! I'm pregnant, and the baby's father is my boss…"

She continued sobbing while her mother tried desperately to console her.

The next morning, Mirna's mother barged into her daughter's boss's office, shouting, "You got my daughter pregnant! Now what are you gonna do about it?"

The elegantly attired man, handsome, in his late thirties, and happily married, hurried Mirna's mother into his plush office, closed the door behind her, and in a comforting voice, he said, "Please take a seat, Ma'am. I want you to know I'm making all the arrangements. Your daughter will have the best Obstetrician in New York. She'll give birth in the best hospital. And, afterward, I'm arranging a trust fund for her and the baby where she'll receive twenty-five hundred dollars a week for life and all she'll have to do is keep our relationship discreet…"

The girl's mother was taken aback and thought for a moment… "Tell me, Sir," she said in a sincere but curious tone, "God forbid my daughter should have a miscarriage, would you be willing to give her a second chance?"
