ESPN Has Reportedly Decided On Their New Big 3 NBA Announcer Booth
The above trio's run coming to an end was sad. Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson were both very good in the booth with Mike Breen and had a very fun, playful relationship that was also very insightful as a fan. Sure some people didn't like how Van Gundy would complain about officiating at times. And Mark Jackson was a little bit hit or miss, but this group had some really great chemistry. Unfortunately, with the recent ESPN layoffs, this group won't get to see the 2023 NBA Regular season together as both Van Gundy and Jackson have now been let go.
But the news about who will be sitting with the iconic voice of the New York Knicks on ESPN's national games and NBA Finals coverage is leaking out.
Doc Rivers, who had formerly done some good TV work with TNT before getting into coaching will join the team as well as cult hero Doris Burke. DB has some haters, but she also has one big fan in Drake.
She's also got that ball on a string!
I am a big Doris Burke fan and am not sure how to feel about this news. I really liked her with Mark Jones and I wonder who Jones will get now with Mark Jackson gone.
But for the NBA Finals at least this will be a huge win. The dismissal of Van Gundy was puzzling to say the least, but Rivers was always the next best option. While not as good as JVG, he's the best possible replacement and DB represents a big upgrade over Jackson. The biggest question facing this group is if they can have that on-air chemistry that makes it more fun for the viewer.
And I'll really miss the tweets:
