We're Looking At Player Props Today On A Baseball Saturday

RECORD

12-19-2 (-6 units)

Fuck, this is frustrating. As I said from the beginning, this is more of a journey of self-discovery than anything, but I REALLY don't like losing. I'm a boxer stepping into the ring for the first time, and holy shit, am I taking a beating. Yesterday wasn't a complete disaster. Brandon Crawford reached base against Rich Hill. That was our one win. Sandy Alcantara was okay but not good enough to beat the Baltimore Orioles last night, and the Phillies pissed down their leg against the Padres. I should've suspected that the Padres, a team that played with poop in their pants all season, would decide to look like a World Series contender last night. Yu Darvish has had a miserable year except when I've bet against him. I've assessed the data, and there's enough evidence to show that I'm having some success with the hits/total bases props. For the time being, we're going to stick with those. Let's look at today's picks.

Joey Wendle over 1.5 bases (-145) against the Orioles

Until this system falls apart, I'm going to trust the pitcher vs batter matchups. Kyle Gibson is extremely hittable, and Joey Wendle tends to slap him around. He's 10-26 in his career against Gibson. Outside of the value being good, I went with over 1.5 bases because Wendle doesn't just spray singles against Gibson. Of his ten hits, seven are extra base hits. Gibson has struggled in Camden Yards this year, posting an ERA over 5 in his home ballpark. I hope that continues against Wendle tonight.

Jeremy Pena over 1.5 bases (+115) against the Angels

Pena has not been able to replicate the remarkable numbers he put up in last year's postseason, but I still like this matchup for him tonight. He's only had ten at-bats against Reid Detmers, but he's got four hits in those ten at-bats. Also, Pena is a different player when going up against left-handed pitchers. His OPS against lefties is over 150 points higher than it is against lefties. Also, this is an essential thing to bring up, but the Angels are a corpse of a baseball team right now. They've lost seven in a row. Pena will find a way to rip a few hits.

Jose Ramirez to homer (+290) against the Rangers

I'll admit that the sample size for this is hilariously small. Jose Ramirez has only had three at-bats against Andrew Heaney, but he has homered twice. I love J-Ram, I think he is possibly the most underrated player of this generation, and I'm not just saying that because he kills my Tigers. I like the value of betting on switch hitters to go deep. Even if there's a pitching change or two, J-Ram's career numbers from both sides of the plate are good. The Guardians biggest issue as a team is that they don't hit for power. Ramirez is the one exception. I need him to go deep tonight. We gotta get the vibes back.
