Nightmare In The Bronx As Aaron Judge Reveals He's Dealing With a Torn Ligament In His Toe That Doesn't Seem Anywhere Close To Healing

If you hate the Yankees and myself you're gonna have a great time reading this blog. If you're like me and base your daily mood on this team then I have a book recommendation for you at the end of the blog.

Aaron Judge spoke to the media today to confirm his toe injury he suffered in LA is pretty serious. This was kinda assumed by fans considering how annoyingly coy the team was being when it came to giving any sort of timeline or update over the last few weeks. The reality is that Judge suffered a ligament tear in his toe when he crashed through the right field wall at Dodger Stadium earlier this month. While we were initially told the injury was a sprain, and a sprain is by definition a tear, this definitely seems much more severe than originally assumed.

sidebar: I need people in jail for there still being a concrete slab at the bottom of the Dodger Stadium's right field fence in the year 2023.

Judge refused to put a date on anything today, because honestly he probably doesn't know either. He can't walk without pain right now nor run. He talked about the trickiness of it being his back foot here.

So the way I see this I'm thinking any return prior to August 1st would be viewed as a great surprise. I don't see it happening and that's brutal, especially considering how bad this offense is currently going right now.

They obviously need Judge right now, but sadly the behemoth isn't anywhere close to returning. For now they're stuck with what they got, which is a cast of vets who are failing to carry their own weight.

DJ LeMahieu is in the worst slump of his career. His swing is all out of whack and he's doing everything he can to figure it out. In the meantime he ain't helping. Giancarlo Stanton looks just about as lost as if Marty Mush was up there taking hacks. Rizzo hasn't been himself, although he's looked better over the last week.

It's an embarrassment Donaldson gets at bats, but they're trying everything to see if someone will start to go off. In reality he should just be DFA'd. 8 hits in 71 plate appearances is impossibly bad, and that's coming off his career worst 2022 campaign. In theory an offense shouldn't crumble like it has without one guy in there, but most offenses aren't constructed by Brian Cashman. Pray for Judge to come back by early August otherwise this song and dance is over for 2023.
