It's Still Crazy That The NBA Allows This - Chris Livingston's Agent Was Reportedly Calling Teams To Tell Them Not To Draft Him, Just So He Could Go To The Bucks
This isn't new by any means, but it's still fucking crazy that the NBA allows this - along with any other league. We're talking about a second round pick here and Rich Paul can dictate where he wants him based on an agreement. The whole point of the Draft is for teams to improve their roster. If a team in the 40s (likely where Livingston would have went) thought he fit, they should be able to take him without the fear of Klutch Sports fucking them over with free agents and such.
That's ultimately what the move is for teams here. If they didn't listen to Rich Paul, they risk other free agents and Klutch guys screwing them over. That said, laugh out loud funny it ended up being the last pick. I sort of respect that move. Hey you're still drafted. It's similar to what Austin Reaves did a few years back. He reportedly didn't want teams to take him late in the second round so he could sign with the Lakers. Worked out for him, but still, the risk is there.
Yes, it's a business decision, but it's also the Draft! We gotta do something to spice this up so things like this don't happen. I love Robby Kalland's idea:
They've had plenty of workouts and scouting at that point. I say one-up it even more. You don't hand in cards, you just point to the guy you want or walk up to the mic yourself and draft a player. You wanna trade, you walk over like a grade school lunch and talk to someone. Gotta get those Fruit Gushers back in the day. But we're at the point where agents are dictating where second round picks go. Let's get back to the Draft being chaos.
