Charlie Culberson Got DFA'd By The Braves Four Hours Before He Was Supposed To Catch The First Pitch From His Dad On Father's Day

Damn, it's a cold world out here.

Charlie Culberson's second career stint with the Braves had been rather uneventful, as the utilityman was called up last month but had yet to make an appearance in a big league game in 2023. The 26th man on the roster is rarely used these days with the DH now in the National League, but the Braves needed the spot to bring up another catcher after Sean Murphy tweaked a hamstring on Saturday. That led to Culberson's exit on Sunday morning — just a few hours before his dad was scheduled to throw out the first pitch to him on Father's Day.

I know the Braves are far more concerned with the team's ability to win baseball games than stuff like this, but you could have waited one more day to let him go. If something had happened to Travis d'Arnaud, I'm sure there is somebody on the roster who is capable of catching a few innings. Hell, it was probably Culberson.

What a tough break. You wake up on Sunday morning thinking you're going to make an unforgettable memory with your dad and instead end up out of a job.
