Your WEEKEND STREAMING GUIDE Including 'T2', 'Heat', 'Apocalypto'

Netflix 

1. T2 Judgement Day: Obviously one of the greatest action scifi movies ever made and one of Cameron's best. I mentioned this in the monthly streaming blog but I'll reiterate how crazy it is that Cameron made not one, but TWO of the greatest sequels of all time with this and 'Aliens'. 

2. Heat: A must-watch Michael Mann banger in my opinion. A great, simple story, great acting between Pacino and De Niro plus fantastic action. The heist and follow up gunfight is STILL one of the greatest ever executed on screen. One of my favorite bits of trivia is that Michael Mann put microphones around the set to properly capture the sound of the gunfight instead of adding it in post. That is why it really feels like a legit firefight. 

3. Kicking & Screaming: This movie flies under the radar thanks to all much better comedies that came out around the same time but I still have a soft spot for it. A lot of the humor still works really well which is more than you can say for most comedies that are 15+ years old. 

4. Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Speaking of truly timeless comedies, this is up there as one of my favorites of all time. It is almost FIFTEY YEARS OLD and still holds up as one of the funniest movies ever.

5. Prisoners: This has thankfully gotten more play as more mainstream audiences discovered direct Denis Villeneuve post-Dune which rocks. One of my favorite thrillers of the last decade with some of Hugh Jackman AND Jake G's career-best acting. Also one of my favorite endings to a thriller ever. 

HBO Max 

1. Avatar: The Way of Water: This movie plays so much better on the big screen but if you missed it or want to rewatch, it just dropped both on Max and Disney+. 

2. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: It's upsetting how little play this movie got because it rocks. A super-smooth, sexy, cold-war spy thriller featuring 2 of the sexiest actors working in Henry Cavill and Alicia Vikander. Also Hammer the (aleged) cannibal, but he admiralty is very good in this. 

3. Office Space: I recently rewatched 'Idiocracy' on Hulu and I'm just going back down the brilliant Mike Judge rabbit hole. I'm not sure if there are many Hollywood minds that just get regular people as well as he does. Anyway, Office Space still holds up as the best office comedy ever made. Absolute perfection that anyone who has worked a blue collar job can relate to. 

4. Hot Tub Time Machine: It's weird to think about it, but HTTM and HTTM2 are probably 2 of the better comedies of the 2010s, a decade that saw comedy movies take a massive dip. 

5. Hereditary: One of the better and more anxiety-inducing horror movies of the last few years, this is a must if you are a fan of the genre. 

Hulu 

1. Dredd: Me and our producer, the Gooch Man, talked a lot about this movie because we think it's one of the cooler sci fi movies of the last decade. Besides being WAY better than the original Sly Stallone version, this is also just fantastic in it's own right. Great action, slow-mo that actually works and a super simple storyline. 

2. Kingsman: The Secret Service: I shouldn't have to pitch this movie because everyone should have watched it already. It's a great play on a spy genre that is worn into dust by the Bond franchise and features one of the coolest shootouts ever in the church scene. 

3. Horrible Bosses: Like Hot Tub Time Machine, I think this is sneaky one of the best comedies of the 2010s. It hasn't aged that well but is still very funny. Especially Collin Ferrell. 

4. Popstar: Never Stop Stopping: I pitch this every time I see it come up because it fucking kills me with a different line every time i rewatch. Here is a timely bit from the movie. 

5. American Psycho: It has obviously been memed to death by the alpha mindset people but the movie does still rip. It's also funny that an obvious satire written by a gay dude and directed by a woman became their rallying call. The fact that they've stolen it almost kinda rocks. 

Prime

1. The Accountant: It's so dumb in the same way most autism = superpowers movies are but I still enjoy it. The action scenes AND even the accounting moments are funny. 

2. True Grit (new): I like this Coen bro's rendition way more than the original and it is expertly acted from everyone involved. Something about a well-shot Western will always have my attention. 

3. Hot Fuzz: 1 of the 2 Edgar Wright movies you're gonna hear about in this blog, I fucking love this movie. It's so perfectly over the top while also having that classic, dry English humor. 

4. Shaun of the Dead: Here is the other Edgar Wright entry. I feel like most people have seen this so I don't have to pitch it much. 

5. Apocalypto: I recently rewatched and it still rips. Just a brutal, gritty historical epic with great action and drama. 

Paramount+ 

1. Commando: One of the all time perfect 80s movies that may have the record for most one liners in a single film. I'll rewatch this any day of the week. 

2. Ronin: I'll pitch this with 2 notes. The first is that this movie set the record for most cars destroyed for a single movie. The second is that I think if you like 'Heat', you'll probably like this. 

3. Pineapple Express: A lot of the jokes haven't aged great, but the highs are still incredible. Basically every scene with Danny McBride is still amazing. 

4. The Foot Fist Way: Speaking of McBride, this one definitly got a lot less play than Pineapple Express but also has a lot of very funny moments. 

5. The Untouchables: I'm a big time DePalma guy but I also recognize that his movies aren't for everyone. However, I fucking love this movie, man. Connery is so perfect and a lot of the side players rock as well. 

Apple TV+

1. Still: This is the Michael J. Fox doc that is more than worth your time. 

2. Tetris: I'm not a huge Tetris guy so I wasn't sure how I would feel going into this movie. That said, It was a really interesting watch that I enjoyed a ton. Funny & interesting with a little suspense. Can't ask for much more. 

3. 300: I don't need to pitch one of the greatest dudes rock movies of all time. 

4. Blackbird: The only mini-series on this list, this was another Taron Egerton banger just like 'Tetris'. He's really charismatic and Paul Walter Hauser is the ULTIMATE creep. 

5. Troy: Whenever I see Troy, I smash that play button. It's not perfect, but god damn to I love the fight sequences. Achilles vs Hector is still one of my favorite 1v1 fights in all of cinema.
