Brittany Mahomes is Getting Dragged for Selling Her 'Wrinkled' Used Clothes Online
I think I can say without fear of contradiction, that Patrick Mahomes is one of the most popular and admired athletes - if not public figures, period - of our time. Who ironically enough, is saddled with not one, but two, of the most universally disliked famous people in American culture in his wife and brother.
And this was true even before he heroically saved the nation from listening to the insufferable Travis Kelce scream another of his moronic speeches into yet another microphone:
And for a few years now, it's seemed like Jackson and Brittany, the Wonder Twins of Celebrity Hangers On, were in a neck-and-neck race for Awfulness Sweepstakes. Until Jackson pulled out to a Secretariat-like lead by not only sexually assaulting a woman in her own restaurant, but also physically abusing her staff and throwing in a "Don't You Know Who I Am???" as an encore:
That pretty much left Brittany in the dust, 34 lengths behind and watching Jackson disappearing into a point on the horizon. But she might have actually found a way to close the gap before he crosses the finish line:
Daily Snark - Brittany Mahomes' … latest post on Instagram has caused a stir on the internet after the wife of Super Bowl winning Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes put out a link to her Postmark account. FYI: Postmark is a site where customers can buy various new or used goods.
Brittany is apparently selling her used clothes online. …
This caused a huge stir on reddit as r/brittanymatthewssnark ripped into her for being a liar as well as being rich and still selling used clothes for more money.
Fans in the comment section, who aren’t fond of Mrs Mahomes went off:
By way of full disclosure, I wasn't familiar with Poshmark. I'm more of a "drop off at the bin behind St. Mary's" kind of guy when it comes to old clothes. But then again, there's not much of a market for the Deflategate-themed t-shirts people sent me in 2015. If you've got nice clothes, Poshmark is described as "a social commerce marketplace where users can buy and sell new and secondhand fashion, home goods, and electronics. The platform has over 80 million users, with over 200M available listings." OK, then.
With that settled, I've got to admit, Brittany is starting to win me over with this move. For the wife of a superstar, the richest player in the history of his sport, to sell her used clothes for what will probably amount to grocery money for her is simply diabolical. And to advertise it online to her 1.3 million followers knowing full well how unpopular she already is? That's just diabolical. That is straight up embracing the hate in a way I can't help but respect it. Even admire her for it.
You know what's happening here? It's a real life version of how all our classic villains are being turned into anti-heroes. Like the Witch of the West in Wicked. Or how in the latest Peter Pan, it turns out Captain Hook was one of the Lost Boys who got left behind, and not just some guy who came out of the womb evil, named after his own deformity. Or Angelina Jolie telling Maleficent's side of the Snow White story. Hell, Emma Stone made you root for Cruella de Vil while the bitch was trying to murder 101 puppies just to look good.
Now Brittany Mahomes is going full evil, and it's enough to almost make me want to root for her. I don't fully understand it. I certainly can't explain it. She's gone full Wrestling Heel. Declaring to the world "You can have my worthless garbage if you pay me enough, but I'll fucking burn it before I give it away to those poors at Goodwill." She's steering into the skid of her own unlikability. She's creating all new fucks and then publicly not giving them. And it's almost attractive in a peculiar, counter-intuitive way.
She still has a long way to go in her Unpopularity Contest with her brother-in-law. But with more moves like this, this race could be a dead heat again in no time.
