The Series Finale For 'Ted Lasso' Was Everything That The Show Did Right And They Absolutely Nailed It

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS....THIS IS YOUR WARNING

I know Ted Lasso ended up annoying a lot of people. I get it. Season 1 was so, so good and then the writing fell off. Season 2 was brutal and this past season was up and down. I'll say that. But this is specific to the series finale. Let me say that while I understand people ended up turning on Ted Lasso, they nailed the finale. It was everything the show was supposed to be and was in season 1.

It was dumb. It was funny. It was warm and fuzzy. It was comforting. It had enough emotions. And, yes, it was corny. That's what made Ted Lasso great in season 1. You had the legit hilarious moments, you had the build up to frustration and character arcs. They tried closing all the character arcs this season and that's actually what they ended up doing well. You had Jamie Tartt, Sam, Ted going back home, Rebecca with the chase for being a parent, even Rupert.

Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of pointless shit. Sorry Keely, I don't care about your PR firm. I don't care about a lot of those side stories that became main focuses. I know Ted tries to sum up the show when he reads Trent's book and leaves the message it shouldn't be called 'The Lasso Way' because it was never about him. But, I just can't get into the Keely PR firm mattering. I found myself into the Roy/Jamie friendship and the Sam character arc.

As for the finale? It had it all. It had Richmond winning a match but not winning the league. It had Nate back and the emotional moment with Ted apologizing. It had what I thought was a decently solid locker room scene:

I even love they called back some of the shit from season 1. Chanting wanker but this time at Rupert, the throwback to offsides:

The dance:

And everything summed up here, including Jamie's decoy play which actually made me chuckle, I don't care to admit that:

I'm not a TV critic. I'm as simple as I don't know I like it or I don't. I can't break down the writing and scenes like what KenJac and Commissioner Jeff D. Lowe can do over at LCB. But I liked Ted Lasso for what it was. It got bad at points for sure, but it was mostly just a comforting show that you could throw on with a significant other and knock out an hour. I feel confident in saying there will be a spinoff of some sort based on how it ended, but for 3 seasons it was fine. It ended correctly.
