Carlos Rodon's Wife Calls Bullshit On a Rumor That Her Husband Isn't Likely To Pitch This Year
You may have forgotten by now but Carlos Rodon was given a 6 year $162M deal by the Yankees to pitch for them starting this season. Well, it's May 9th and he's been nowhere to be seen besides one Spring Training start. Kind of a problem.
After that Spring outing he was placed on the IL with a forearm strain which then turned into an elbow issue. With that eventually cleared up he began a throwing program to ideally get back here in May. Good news!
While that was happening he developed a strange back issue that still to this moment no one knows the nature of. No matter how many scans he's been put through nothing comes up. Rodon has said there isn't any pain, but the injury is hampering him from locating and moving around. Finally late last week the Yankees decided to give him a cortisone injection to hopefully alleviate whatever the hell is going on in there. With that news we also found out the injury is being labeled 'chronic' which is enough to have the city of New York put nets over the rivers.
Not what you want out of a guy you just gave a six year deal to. In a perfect world you throw Cole-Rodon-Nestor-Sevy out there with Domingo let's say as the 5 and that's as good as it gets. Unfortunately we haven't come close to seeing that come to fruition. It's been Cole and Nestor with a makeshift rotation the rest of the way.
Yesterday Jomboy mentioned on his show that some people around the org have whispered to not count on 2023 for Rodon. A death sentence in Yankee fans' eyes. Nightmare fuel.
Well, a few hours later, Rodon's wife Ashley chimed in
Tough timing for this rumor to come out on one of the rare times she's online
Whether she's telling the truth or just sticking up for her man I respect the hell out of it. Ride or dies are what it's all about. You see your guy taking heat and having rumors circle around his situation you fight back.
I need this cortisone injection to work and for Ashley to be right. There have been moments so far where I genuinely forget he's on the team. Dude's a difference maker out there and has the energy to spark the team along with the stadium. We need all of that right now. Obviously hitting is the main concern here, but getting a 2nd ace inserted into the rotation would be massive.
Just please don't be Carl Pavano.
