We Are So Fucked: Scientists Have Created An AI System That Can Read A Human's Mind And Translate It Into Text

Daily Mail- Mind-reading technology can now transcribe people’s thoughts in real-time based on the blood flow in their brain. A study put three people in MRI machines and got them to listen to stories.

For the first time, researchers claim, they produced a rolling text of people’s thoughts, and not just single words or sentences, without using a brain implant. The mind-reading technology did not exactly replicate the stories, but captured the main points.

Using technology similar to ChatGPT, the technology also interpreted what people were seeing when they watched silent films, or their thoughts as they imagined telling a story.

Let's get the reactions for people that are unable to speak due to disabilities or other reasons:

Now let's get the reactions for the rest of humanity:

Yeah I'm sorry to the supernerds that made the seemingly impossible possible creating technology that should help a ton of people. But I feel like we are blogging the demise of humanity to a fate of Terminator or The Matrix on a daily basis here at Barstool. I mean Billy blogged about the robotic death dogs getting ChatGPT uploaded into its mainframe.

If/when those killer computer canines turn on their human masters, they will be able to wipe us off the planet easier than hitting CTRL-Z considering they will probably have access to every bit of information that is stored online or on a hard drive then can just penetrate our minds like a mechanical Professor X.

In fairness to these scientists, they completely realize how fucked things could get if this technology got into the wrong hands.

Jerry Tang, lead author of the study from the University of Texas at Austin, said he could not prove ‘a false sense of security’ that the technology might not have the potential to eavesdrop on people’s thoughts in the future, and said it could be ‘misused’ now.

‘And we want to dedicate a lot of time moving forward to try to try to avoid that.

But he said: ‘We take very seriously the concerns that it could be used for bad purposes.

‘I think, right now, while the technology is in such an early state, it's important to be proactive and get a head-start on, for one, enacting policies that protect people's mental privacy, giving people a right to their thoughts and their brain data.

‘We want to make sure that people only use these when they want to, and that it helps them.’

Jerry Tang seems like a nice guy that has humanity's best interests at heart. However he also strikes me as the guy that is screaming about how his technology has been hijacked by some nefarious group while wearing a Longhorns hat. Trust me, it's always the fans who have their hearts constantly ripped out by their favorite teams that have this type of stuff happen to them (I'm a Mets and Knicks fan, so I know of this theory all too well). So I will say thank you Jerry for creating such a useful technology and fuck you for being yet another person that sentenced our species to death via machine.

Alllllll that being said, if Jerry's group can create the baby translator using AI, they will make the lives of countless new parents so much easier, even if that technology will also be used by the bots to take over the world.
