Jerry Springer Played A Pivotal Role In My Childhood Brain Development

Jerry Springer, the longtime talk show host, died Thursday at his home in suburban Chicago at age 79.

Springer is best known for his always controversial "The Jerry Springer Show," which ran in syndication from 1991 to 2018. He most recently hosted the syndicated courtroom show "Judge Jerry," which was canceled in early 2022 after three seasons.

As someone who grew up in the 90's it's not an exaggeration to say Jerry Springer played a pivotal role in my childhood brain development. Sneaking down to watch MTV's "Springer Break", that time his guest's wife had a real horse face (because she was an actual horse), the sex worker who's dentures flew out mid-fight on the stage… these are the memories that last a lifetime. 

Besides his own iconic show, Springer was also a huge part of American pop culture in general with sightings on dozens of shows & movies from The X-Files, The Simpsons, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me…

And of course he was a Football Guy:

A lesser known fact is that he was a former attorney and politician. Springer was even mayor of Cincinnati from 1977 - 78 before running The Jerry Springer Show for 27 seasons over 3 decades. 

In closing, I want to say "Rest In Peace," but for his sake I hope there's still a few fist fights up there.

To remember Jerry, the family asks that in lieu of flowers you consider following his spirit and make a donation or commit to an act of kindness to someone in need or a worthy advocacy organization. As he always said, 'Take care of yourself, and each other.'
