SEC Schools Are Apparently Pissed Off That Ole Miss Is Hiring Chris Beard Just Months After He Was Fired By Texas
So this is/was the worst kept secret in college basketball. It's just now becoming 'official.' Ole Miss is hiring Chris Beard. It's also impossible to talk about Chris Beard without mentioning why he got fired from Texas this year:
You also have to mention that these charges were eventually dropped, which is why Ole Miss is hiring Chris Beard:
[Source] - The Travis County district attorney's office on Wednesday dropped the felony domestic violence charge against former University of Texas men's basketball head coach Chris Beard, who lost his job after his fiancée called 911 and said he had attacked her.
Beard's fiancée, Randi Trew, released a statement several days after his Dec. 12 arrest saying that "it was never my intent to have him arrested or prosecuted."
The DA's office filed a motion to dismiss the case Wednesday.
Now it's not exactly shocking someone took a chance and hired Beard, but I sort of assumed he'd be out for a year. We see it happen all the time in sports when someone who is a great coach. It's likely why this tweet is out there
Now, again, charges were dropped, so I don't know what would prevent Ole Miss from hiring Beard. Obviously it's bad optics, I think everyone can agree on that. But we're talking major college athletics here. They don't care about that. They care about winning and money. It's always been that way and even more so with how much money is out there today. Ole Miss wants to win, that's all it cares about. Look across the league and you see improvements in arenas and success from other 'football schools.'
It's not surprising they did it, it's just surprising they aren't waiting to news dump this during the games on Thursday. Figured they'd try to hide the hire a little bit and not catch heat while there are no games being played.
