The NBA For Some Reason Is Creating A Feature Where You Can Turn Yourself Into An Avatar And Play In Real Games
Let me begin by saying this is insanely cool. The stuff technology can do in 2023 is getting pretty out of hand and frankly, you could make the case that we're in the beginning stages of our own demise as a species. Whether it's the NBA App or ChatGPT AI bots
or another robot creation from Boston Dynamics
we're all so fucked. At this point, we can't put the toothpaste back in the tube so we may as well start to bow down to our robot overlords.
But back to the NBA for a second.
Hey Adam, I don't want to come off like a dick, but there are no fewer than 10,000 things going on in your league right now that need way more attention than allowing me to become an avatar so I can play in Celts games. I have 2K, it's the same shit. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but you have A GIGANTIC officiating problem on your hands. Every single night we're seeing the product be ruined and games being impacted because you refuse to do anything about it outside of having the official refs' Twitter account apologize to LeBron
How about load management? I'm not sure if you've noticed while you were playing around with these avatars, but all your best stars are flat out not playing. Remember when you pretended to care about that and said you would start fining teams? How's that going? I could argue that guys sitting out has only gotten worse over the years.
If you want to keep it to technology, how about League Pass? How many more years is that app/technology going to stink out loud? Maybe while you're at it, figure out the whole blackout issue. That may be more TV rights related but I don't give a shit. League Pass as a product has had a ton of issues for years now, and the last time I checked that's not getting any better.
I know this is the kind of stuff Silver and the league always shows off during All Star weekend, remember a few years ago when they showed us the future of the NBA jersey back in 2019?
At the time people said the same thing I'm sure you're seeing today
I get it, you have to be ahead of the curve when it comes to technology blah blah blah. Like I said, the idea is pretty cool. Will I ever use it once it comes out? Heavens no, but I also understand I'm probably not the demo that Silver and the league are going for.
My advice would simply be that before you get your dick all hard about some weird avatar in the NBA app, fix your freaking league. If there are too many problems and you don't know which one to focus on, I recommend your officiating since ya know, that actually impacts the results of games.
Cool app feature though I guess, that's how you keep your eye on the prize.
