(Do Not) Watch This When You're High - Russia Released Declassified Footage of The Most Powerful Nuclear Bomb Detonated EVER

Times Now New - The footage of the biggest nuclear explosion ever caught on camera was kept highly classified until it was released by Russia in 2020. Notably, the 40-minute previously classified video was released in August 2020 by the Russian nuclear division ROSATOM.

The footage was released on August 20, 2020, on the 75th anniversary of Russia's nuclear industry. A major part of the video depicts Russia's nuclear journey.

The device was detonated on October 30, 1961, off the coast of Severny Island near the Arctic Ocean and was called the Tsar Bomb. It was a hydrogen bomb with 50 megatons or 50 million tons of explosives. A report by Popular Mechanics noted that Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev commissioned the construction of the Tsar Bomba in July 1961. While Krushchev wanted a 100-megaton nuclear weapon, engineers made a 50-megaton version which was equivalent to 50 million tons (45 million metric tons) of TNT detonated at once.

Even after nearly 60 years after the detonation, no single explosive device has matched its destructive power.

Well that's fucking terrifying.

Figured now was as appropriate a time as any to dial this one up.

I mean I know I have an acorn brain, but I watched that video a few times and can't even begin to fathom how gigantic that mushroom cloud actually was.

I found this video today of another detonated nuke test Bikini Atoll that artificial intelligence cleaned up into color-rich HD. It's also pretty wild.

I'm neither a peacenik nor a warhawk, but what possessed humans to create something like this?

And what is the fallout (no pun intended) from testing these nukes? I know they do them thousands of miles away from civilization and all, but that shit travels no? Wind carries? Water travels in currents? There are still major ecosystems of fish and wildlife impacted by this shit no?

Scary stuff.

Keep the suggestions coming. Keep them classy. No butt stuff.
