Colts Hire Eagles Offensive Coordinator Shane Steichen, Unfortunately Are No Longer a Hilarious Organization

The Indianapolis Colts have finally found their Head Coach. It's a guy called Shane Steichen. He was the Eagles Offensive Coordinator. I can tell you right now, I enjoyed writing about the Colts a lot more when Jim Irsay was hiring Jeff Saturday off the set of ESPN, and holding press conferences about quartiles and rocket science.

Last year was fun. I was even starting to talk myself into another year of Head Coach Jeff Saturday. I thought there was a 5% chance he could still be good, and a 95% chance it would result in another 3 or 4 win season, making for an unprecedented double tank. I was here for the double tank. I could have done another year of nonsense. Nonsense is fun. And if the Colts aren't going to be good, I'd at least like to have some laughs along the way.

I thought the Colts should consider hiring a ghost coach, and putting him in Jeff Saturday's hat like Ratatouille to feed him play calls. Or have Jim Irsay himself coach the team from a motorcycle. Or at least hire Eric Beiniemy so I can tweet that Lil Wayne freestyle some more.

But in reality, Jim Irsay is running a real life NFL Football franchise, and not a fictional team from a goofy sitcom.

Shane Steichen seems about as good as anyone. It's not an exciting name by any means. I'm not sure if I've ever heard a less exciting name in my life to be honest. But the Eagles had a good offense this year. They made the Super Bowl. And apparently Steichen is great at developing QB's, which checks out considering Jalen Hurts wasn't supposed to be nearly as good as he turned out. Colts GM Chris Ballard has already said he's willing to do whatever it takes to select a top QB.

All of which leads me to believe that the Colts will indeed be trading away their entire future to move up to #1 and select Bryce Young. Personally, I'd like to see them only trade away only half their future, and draft C.J. Stroud, but whatever they do I'll convince myself that it'll work out. For some reason I can't explain, I still have faith in their decision making.

The bottom line is the Colts are attempting to be a real football team again. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little sad to see it. But as long as we can get Jim Irsay in front of a microphone a few times, and nobody takes his Twitter account away from him, I'm sure the Colts season we'll be fun enough. And maybe we'll actually start winning games again. I guess I'd like to see that too.
